Celebrate Success Of Lonach At Annual Ball

Organisers of an historic ball to be held in Aberdeenshire next week have announced that there are tickets still available for the black-tie function.
The Lonach Highland Ball is an annual event organised by the Lonach Highland and Friendly Society that celebrates the achievements of competitors at the previous week’s Lonach Highland Gathering and Games, and the success of the gathering itself.
Held on Friday, 30 August in the Lonach Hall, Strathdon, the evening event can trace its origins back to 1833 when the first reference to the ball can be found. The event attracts around 140 guests annually, and with the venue able to accommodate around 200 people, the society is keen to welcome more attendees.
The formal evening event in the magnificent wood panelled, barrel-vaulted venue draws guests from the local area, across north-east Scotland and further afield. Guests will be treated to a four-course meal served by Harry Fraser Catering, followed by dancing to the Graeme Mitchell Scottish Dance Band. Tickets are priced at £40 per person.
A number of trophies that were competed for at the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games, which takes place tomorrow [Saturday, 24 August], will also be presented during the evening.
Jennifer Stewart, secretary and chief executive of the Lonach Highland and Friendly Society, said: “The Lonach Highland Ball has a long and rich history that stretches back over 180 years and we’re keen to continue that. The Lonach Hall is a beautiful venue with a traditional sprung dancefloor that gives a good bounce for Scottish dancing, which in itself is a draw for keen dancers attending the ball. Add to that a delicious menu and great music, and it creates a brilliant night that attracts people from far and wide.
“It is the culmination of a busy couple of weeks for the local community following all of the hard work that goes into the annual gathering and is a great way to acknowledge that and celebrate its success.”
