Saturday 3rd April 2021. Unfortunately the very tough decision has been made to cancel the 2021 Lonach Highland Gathering and Games. The COVID vaccine roll out is making good progress in the UK, and especially here in Scotland, however, there are still too many unknown restrictions that may be in place in August. These restrictions may have an impact on the organisation and logistics of Lonach. Although the Games was not due to be held until 28th August 2021, a decision had to be made now as Lonach does not happen overnight – there is a huge amount of preparation and planning that takes place. However, the health, well-being and safety of our local community and everyone who attends Lonach are the most important factors here.
We are looking forward to our 179th Lonach which will, hopefully, be held on the 4th Saturday in August 2022!
Take care and stay safe.
The Lonach Highland and Friendly Society was founded in 1823 by Sir Charles Forbes,
1st Baronet of Newe and Edinglassie (1773-1849).
Membership is drawn from the inhabitants of Strathdon, who continue to fulfil the society’s original mission of
preserving Highland dress and “supporting loyal, peaceful, and manly conduct; and the promotion of
social and benevolent feelings among the inhabitants of the district.”
